The
observed flow field was produced
by
initializing the model with Levitus
climatology,
shutting off thermo-
dynamical
forcing, and running the
model
for two weeks. Substantial
transients
remain in the equatorial
region.
The
simulated fields are qualitatively
similar
to each other and to the
observations.
The surface flow in the
western
subtropical gyre tends to be
more
surface intensified in the two
HYCOM
KPP simulations than in
other
cases.
