A
test of the KPP mixing algorithm
 was
 performed by determining if an
 Ekman
 spiral was produced by
 quasi-steady
 surface momentum flux
 forcing.
 A special run was performed
 with
 30 vertical layers. Proceeding
 downward,
 the minimum layer
 thickness
 was 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, … m.

 During
winter at a model grid point
 within
 the North Atlantic Trade
 Winds
 (near 15N), a reasonable
 Ekman
 spiral was present in the
 upper
 50 m.
