Summer (August 15) S along 33W to a depth of 500m. The thick line is the mixed layer base. The simulated fields are somewhat similar in structure and are reasonably consistent with the observations. A major exception is the lower nearsurface S in the interior subtropical gyre for the HYCOM K-T MICOM mode simulation. This is associated with the westward displacement of the region of large salinity in the subtropical gyre relative to the location in other HYCOM simulations and in observations that was documented in earlier slides.
