Winter fields simulated by HYCOM using the two hybrid K-T mixing schemes have significant differences. Very large differences exist in simulated SSH, with HYCOM K-T 2 producing an unrealistic field. The full K-T 1 mixing scheme performs better than the simplified K-T 2 scheme.
