In this and the seven subsequent slides, five annual cycles of upper ocean variability are illustrated by imaging the temperature field and superimposing the vertical coordinate interfaces and the mixed layer base (thick line). At the STMW grid point, the annual cycles of STMW formation do not show a large climate drift. Mode water in the MICOM mode simulation remains substantially too cold. The two hybrid coordinate simulations display a stronger main thermocline than the MICOM mode simulation.
