Dear Steering Committee, Please plan to meet as a group for lunch on Monday to go over objectives for the Tuesday's working group meetings. On Tuesday, time is of the essence, since the bulk of our work must be accomplished during the three parallel working groups. All of the topics are meritorious of their own dedicated workshops, so go for the cream. We aren't going to solve all the problems, particularly for WG III; rather we should encourage the participants to view this as a brain storming session, rather than as the single opportunity to define "the" solution. Let's plan to meet Tuesday night to summarize our progress, perhaps for dinner. Wednesday afternoon we need to draft the report outline and make writing and other assignments. We have working group chair assignments as follows: Peter - group 1 Mark - group 2 Chris, with as Eric as co-chair - group 3 Steve - group 4 Dan and MJ - floaters Several things to consider as working group chairs: 1. assign a rapporteur for your working group - perhaps a different person for each topic, to spread the work. We need to capture the ideas for the sessions to include in the report, so hopefully the rapporteurs will be conscientious. 2. you may wish to rotate who does the reporting in the plenary sessions; or you may choose to do the summaries yourselves. 3. identify specific examples that could be included in the report. Make a note of who could provide us with high quality electronic figures, verbiage, references for the report. Working group session I: Identify major science questions best addressed by A/L platforms. Working group session II: Identify needs for more capable platforms and sensors (ideas for things that need to be developed; this could be a funding opportunity) Working group session III: Propose models to advance technology and to enable the community's broader access to A/L platforms and sensors (brain storming session) Best wishes, and see you in La Jolla.
