Guide to Downloaded RVSMDC Material

At this point, you should have just completed downloading and converting (from
compressed format) your RVSMDC data from the FSU/COAPS RVSMDC data page.

To illustrate the contents of your downloaded files we will follow an example
for two cruises on the R/V Polarstern.

Our example directory structure tree is (note: 4 levels shown):

1.  In the primary (top) directory (rvsmdc/) you will find a directory (rv/)
    where the data and documentation are stored.  

	./rvsmdc>ls
	rv/


2.  Change directories to (./rvsmdc> cd rv), here you have a choice to either look
    at R/V Polarstern data (DBLK/) or documentation for the data (docs/).	

	./rvsmdc/rv>ls
	DBLK/  docs/


3.  Change directories to (./rvsmdc/rv> cd docs). The docs/ directory contains 
    documents describing the ASCII/netCDF (wcdpubas.html/wcdpubnc.html) formats 
    of our data.  Also, documentation about WOCEMET's file naming convention 
    (wcdpubfnc.html) and our (WOCEMET) logos used in these documents are found
    under the docs/ directory.	For the convience of the user, the documents in
    this directory are provided in both .html and .ps formats.

4.  Change directories to (./rvsmdc/rv/docs> cd ../DBLK). The DBLK/ or other 
    research vessel directories, will contain cruise directories listed by year
    (i.e., 1993/ and 1995/).	

	./rvsmdc/rv/DBLK>ls
	1993/  1995/
 

5.  Change directories to (./rvsmdc/rv/DBLK> cd 1993), shows an example 
    output of the contents in a RVSMDC cruise directory.  The year .gif 
    (i.e., 1993.gif) image shows the cruise path(s) during the entire year.
    The .html and .ps files are copies of the corresponding quality control
    reports for that year.  The .asc and .nc files listed contain the data,
    the user has the option of which format to use.  Please see the 
    wcdpubas.html and wcdpubnc.html documents in the ./rvsmdc/rv/docs/
    directory for information about the similarities and differences of 
    these two formats.

6.  Change directories to (./rvsmdc/rv/DBLK/1993> cd ../1995) to see a 
    second example output of a RVSMDC cruise directory that was downloaded.  
    This directory contains all of the same contents as the year above 
    (./rvsmdc/rv/DBLK/1993/).
